Thick-cut brioche or pain de mie bread
4 slices of high-quality ham (Parisian or Black Forest)
1 cupGruyère cheese, shredded
2 tablespoonsbutter (for toasting)
1 teaspoonDijon mustard
Béchamel Sauce: 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp flour, 1 cup warm milk, salt, pepper, pinch of nutmeg
Instructions
Prepare the béchamel sauce by melting butter, adding flour, then gradually whisking in warm milk until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
Assemble the sandwich by spreading Dijon mustard on one side of each slice of bread. Add ham and Gruyère cheese, then top with another slice of bread.
Toast the sandwich in a buttered skillet over medium heat until golden brown.
For extra crispiness, bake in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
Optionally, broil for 2 minutes for a cheesy top layer. Serve hot!
